MISA Manufacturing -- Heavy Automation Division

Heavy Duty Type Column & Boom Welding Manipulator

Engineered by MISA Manufacturing (Wuxi Misa Welding Equipment Co., Ltd.), the Heavy Duty series is purpose-built for automated welding of large, high-mass workpieces. Compared to standard-duty equipment, these manipulators feature a fundamentally stiffer structural frame and significantly greater load-bearing capacity -- delivering exceptional welding precision and motion stability across long-stroke, high-load operating conditions.

Models & Specifications

All Heavy Duty models are equipped with a standard 200 × 200 mm large-format cross slide for fine torch adjustment. Each model designation encodes the column travel × boom travel dimension in decimetres.

Model Column Travel (Vertical) Boom Travel (Horizontal) Cross Slide Max Tip Load Typical Applications
LH-4040 4,000 mm 4,000 mm 200 × 200 mm 200 kg Pressure vessels, mid-scale steel structures
LH-6060 6,000 mm 6,000 mm 200 × 200 mm 200 kg Large pressure vessels, heavy structural fabrication
LH-7070 7,000 mm 7,000 mm 200 × 200 mm 300 kg Wind towers, large tanks, heavy-industry fabrication lines

Note: All specifications are nominal values. Custom stroke configurations, control packages (SAW / TIG / MIG), and rail-mounted column travel are available on request. Contact MISA engineering for project-specific proposals.

Engineering advantage

Key Features

The Heavy Duty series represents the core equipment for achieving high-efficiency, high-quality welding in large-scale heavy industrial manufacturing.

High Load-Bearing Capacity

Capable of supporting heavier welding heads, wire feed mechanisms, flux recovery systems, and auxiliary equipment simultaneously. The reinforced boom and column geometry ensures that full payload capacity is maintained at maximum stroke extension, meeting the demanding load requirements of complex multi-process welding operations.

Extended Operating Envelope

With column and boom strokes reaching 7 m × 7 m, the Heavy Duty series covers the full workpiece envelope of wind turbine towers, large-diameter pressure vessels, monopile structures, and heavy structural steel assemblies. A standard 200 × 200 mm cross slide across all models provides precision torch micro-adjustment within the working envelope without repositioning the main axes.

Reinforced Structural Integrity

Fabricated from high-strength structural steel with precision-machined guideways and heavy-duty linear motion components. The frame design resists structural stress induced by sustained high loads, ensuring positioning accuracy and vibration suppression throughout long-duration continuous production runs -- critical for achieving consistent weld quality on nuclear-grade, pressure-rated, and certified structural work.

Typical Industries & Applications

The Heavy Duty series is selected by fabricators, EPCs, and OEMs working across the following sectors and workpiece types.

  • Wind Energy -- Tower Fabrication

Longitudinal and circumferential seam welding of large-diameter, thick-wall wind turbine tower sections and transition pieces.

  • Pressure Vessel & Boiler Fabrication

ASME/PED-compliant vessels, heat exchangers, and reactor internals requiring multi-pass SAW or TIG overlay procedures.

  • Heavy Steel Structure & Shipbuilding

Bridge girders, offshore platform components, crane booms, ship blocks, and large-frame structural weldments.

  • Storage Tanks & Industrial Vessels

Large-diameter storage tanks, LNG inner vessels, process columns, and heat-recovery units for oil & gas and chemical industries.
